FAIRFAX, Va. — George Mason University (GMU) broke ground this summer on a new $73 million health sciences building to debut in 2017. The 160,000-square-foot Academic VII/Research III building is part of GMU’s ongoing strategic plan, which includes renovating several academic buildings.
EVANSDALE, W. Va. — West Virginia University’s Evansdale campus opened the doors to the new advanced engineering research building for the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources on Oct. 1. The building features learning spaces and laboratories where students and faculty can “come together to solve the technical problems of today and tomorrow,” Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, said in a statement. The university has high hopes for the new engineering center.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State University officials are currently seeking options to renovate or replace the university’s famous Beaver Stadium in the next 10 years.
The stadium currently has an official seating capacity of 106,572, making it the second largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere and the third largest in the world. Some parts of the stadium date back to 1909. Its size and long-standing history in college football attract thousands of visitors each year; however, the stadium has become antiquated.
BOTHELL, Wash. — The University of Washington (UW) Bothell and Cascadia College (both located in Bothell) celebrated the grand opening of the new 36,000-square-foot Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) on Oct. 7. The $22 million facility was jointly funded using student activity fees from both institutions and is anticipated to become the hub of student life on the institutions’ shared Bothell campus.
NEWTON, Mass. — Construction on Newton Country Day School’s new Athletic & Wellness Center in Newton is progressing on schedule, and the school is less than a year away from celebrating its completion.
CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State University (OSU) recently opened the Survivor Advocacy and Resource Center to offer support to students who experience sexual violence. The center debuted on Oct. 8 in Corvallis and provides confidential and easily accessible services.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The new 31,500-square-foot Lynn Science Center at Lycoming College in Williamsport is now open for classes.

FREDERICK, Md. — Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) is undergoing some major changes with the groundbreaking of the new $120 million Frederick High in early September. The FCPS Board of Education is also in the process of deciding whether or not to build two elementary schools, despite only having the budget for one.
GALLUP, N.M. — Gallup-McKinley County Schools recently broke ground on the new Del Norte Elementary School. The new facility is scheduled to open in January 2017.
