By Fay Harvey听

REDMOND, Wash. 鈥 In 2022, the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) community voted to repurpose $295 million in funds from the Building Excellence Construction Levy to create a new school campus in Redmond. The new construction plan creates space for an additional 252 students in Norman Rockwell Elementary in Redmond, including 30 new classrooms and support spaces in a new two-story building, bringing the school capacity from 438 to 690.听

The design-build team of Bellevue-based construction company Lydig and Tacoma-based architecture and planning firm McGranahanPBK have collaborated closely with project stakeholders over the last 18 months through the planning phase, community open houses and monthly executive leadership meetings.听

Additional site work, including bus and parent loading areas, staff and visitor parking, service and utility yards, geothermal loop, play field, and playground facilities, are proposed in conjunction with the facility that is set to be finished by 2026. LWSD also highlighted sustainability plans in the 2024 presentation for community members, mentioning carbon footprint reduction, solar readiness, low emitting furniture, and on-site water infiltration.
