By Eric Althoff

SEWELL, N.J.鈥擱owan University, located in the southern portion of New Jersey, is adding an entirely new medical training facility to its profile.

The Rowan Medicine Center鈥揅umberland will focus on the mental and physical health of families around South Jersey, specifically along the Route 55 corridor. Nearby Garrison Architects, which has already done work for the Rowan College of South Jersey medical program, will be designing this project as well. However, no contractor has yet been announced, according to an email sent to 91视频 from the university.

The two-story Rowan Medicine Center鈥揅umberland will contain over 17,000 square feet of educational and medical space. In addition to areas for medical students to practice working with patients, the new facility will focus heavily on addiction and recovery treatment. The facility will also host the Child Abuse Research Education and Service Institute (CARES).

鈥淎s the state’s only osteopathic medical school, we take great pride in being able to provide high quality, team-based specialized services to our South Jersey neighbors who might not have access to this type of care,鈥 Dr. Thomas Cavalieri, dean of Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, said in a news release from the university. 鈥淥ur Rowan Medicine team looks forward to becoming part of the RCSJ community in Cumberland County, serving patients and partnering with them for healthier outcomes.鈥

Added New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney: 鈥淭oday, Rowan is among the top 100 public research universities in the nation, and Rowan College of South Jersey is the state鈥檚 most forward-looking community college. Their partnership has led not only to a new model for higher education, but now is demonstrating how to bring much-needed specialized medical services to communities in need.鈥

鈥淏uilding Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine facilities on RCSJ campuses broadens our service area while bringing specialized health care to communities with growing needs,鈥 added Dr. Ali A. Houshmand, president of Rowan University.

The Rowan Medicine Center’s Cumberland campus building will become a part of Rowan鈥檚 Route 55 鈥淓Ds, MEDs and Commerce Corridor.鈥
