When officials with the Belcourt School District in Belcourt, N.D., decided it was time to replace the district’s existing, overcrowded high school, they faced a unique challenge. Since the new school would be located on a reservation shared by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, it was important that the facility reflect the cultural and educational values of the district, the students and members of the tribe, without going over budget or sacrificing educational space to accommodate cultural components.
