Synthetic Turf Base

The Brock Performance Base is made of a high crystalline polypropylene plastic bead and polyurethane binder. The base is applied under the artificial turf in football fields to increase athletes’ safety and improve drainage, according to the company. The product is also considered to be environmentally friendly, according to a study done in 2007.

Safety Surface

No Fault Sport Group, originator of the synthetic poured-in-place safety surface concept, announced the release of No Fault Safety Surface designed for playground, sports and safety surfacing needs. The surface meets ASTM standards and is backed by a full warranty.

Playground Surfacing System

CSSI, a manufacturer of resilient surfacing products, introduces PlayGuard ULTRA, which incorporates polymeric wear surface construction into its two-foot-square standard tile line.

The tiles feature a firm surface suitable for wheelchairs and mobility aides, meeting or exceeding all ADA requirements. The company also says the tiles comply with the guidelines established by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission and the American Society for Testing and Materials.

Artificial Grass

The FieldTurf system employs a shock-absorbing rubber/sand infill surrounding each blade of smooth synthetic grass. The special infill gives FieldTurf the same torque release as natural grass and allows cleated shoes to easily penetrate, rotate and release, minimizing the chance for motion related injury, according to the company. Maintenance fees are a fraction of the upkeep costs required to sustain a grass field.

The unique construction also allows athletes to slide on the surface, eliminating the incidence of “turf toe,” a common ailment on carpeted surfaces.

Turf Fabric

FieldTurf does not depend on an underlying shock pad for resilience and player comfort. Instead, the grass fibers are surrounded and stabilized by the company’s patented mixture of smooth rounded silica sand and rubber granules. Tire rubber is cryogenically frozen, shattered into smooth, clean, rounded particles and sized and shaped to stay “in suspension” with the silica sand. The sand and rubber are precision layered for uniformity.

The distance between the rows for fibers tufted into the backing is directly related to the height pile fibers. Polyethylene fiber is treated with UV inhibitors and is abrasion resistant so that athletes can slide without fear of turf burns, according to the company.

Sports Surface

Sport Court surfaces are designed to offer safe, suspended systems that ease the shock on joints, the company says. The flooring surfaces and multipurpose gyms are versatile enough to switch from volleyball to basketball to non-athletic uses, such as meetings.

The company’s Defense surface is designed for uses such as roller hockey. The patented surface delivers near-frictionless puck movement, less puck chatter and less skate vibration. Portafloor pro-ICE system is used for converting and protecting ice arenas. It is designed with a chemical formulation to interact with ice surfaces.

Synthetic Sports Surface

Poligras from Sports Technology International, a division of Advanced Polymer Technology, is a synthetic turf sports surfacing and is now available in two distinct formats, Poligras NF and Poligras 2000.

Poligras NF is a 2-inch-plus slit-film polyethylene fiber tufted into a dual layer of woven polypropylene and coated with a durable and stable polyurethane. Poligras 2000 is good for wet playing conditions, the company says, and consists of a 0.5-inch polypropylene fiber tufted into a double primary backing and coated with polyurethane.

Both products can be manufactured to include all line striping and game lines, along with inlaid logos, numbers and letters. They are made with recycled/renewable resources.

Sport Surfaces

Vibra-Whirl Ltd. is the producer and installer of sport surfaces, including Omni Track and Spiketop. The Omni latex all-weather track choices include the Omni System “B,” in which black rubber chips are bound together with a specially-formulated black rubber latex. A black polymeric coating is sprayed on the finish surface, resulting in an entirely black surface.

In the Omni System “F,” colored rubber combines with a binder of the same color to create a deeper color. The finished surface is sprayed with a matching polymeric coating. High-wear areas at starts, exchange zones and on field event areas remain virtually invisible during the life of the surface.

Hydraulic Lawn Seeders

The FINN HydroSeeder machines combine seed, fertilizer, soil amendments, mulch fiber, tackifier, and other additives into thick slurry that is sprayed onto the seedbed. The system allows school and athletic facilities to quickly establish vegetation for sports fields and athletic turf, as well as aid land reclamation and help control erosion.

The FINN HydroSeeders feature hydraulically driven mechanical agitation systems with large steel paddles, which operate in both forward and reverse directions at variable speeds. The machines are available in seven different models with capacities ranging from 300 to 3,300 gallons.
