For 2016, EDexpo was re-engineered by the member leadership as a standalone event focused on the dealer/supplier community. The popular connectED program returned with 169 dealers each matched to 30-plus exhibitors for meetings that further increased interaction on the show floor.

EDexpo was officially launched with the Top Products Luncheon, where first grade teacher Morgan Womick of Education Express presented on hot products for the coming school year. A new educational offering was the EDtalks session, moderated by Laura Gurley of the Teachers’ Lounge, featuring 12 EDmarket member dealers sharing their best ideas for improving sales and operations. Another new feature, the Show ‘N Tell Dinner, featured 20 vendors showcasing interactive games, crafts and DIY projects with dealers.

During a celebration marking the organization’s 100th year, Chair Laurie Uherek, president of Educate & Celebrate, remarked, “An organization that can stand the test of time for 100 years is truly one built on the hard work and dedication of the best and brightest of our industry. From its founding at a meeting during the AASA convention in 1916, through times of war and peace, recession and prosperity, the Education Market Association has been providing the events, opportunities, resources, and leadership that improve student outcomes by advancing the educational products marketplace.”

Uherek also presided over the organization’s annual meeting where members were recognized for years of membership and leadership service. Past Chair Tom Green presented Jeffrey “Drew” Henize with the John L. Spalding Memorial Scholarship, and Doug Jehle, CEO of Teacher Direct, was awarded the Education Market Association’s highest honor, the David McCurrach Distinguished Service Award for his past leadership and contributions to the association.

More than 100 new items were also on display in the New Product鈥⊿howcase. The鈥╳inners of the 5th Annual Eddy Awards for the best items in鈥╰he New Product Showcase went to Bouncy Bands’ Bouncy鈥˙ands for Desk and Chairs. Second place went to Primary Concepts’鈥℉ourglass Classroom Timer, and third place to Incredibly Interconnected Toys’ ZAZ.

Next year’s event will return to Las Vegas, March 15-17, 2017 at the Westgate Resort & Casino.

Hosted by the Education Market Association (EDmarket), which provides events, opportunities, resources and leadership to improve student outcomes by advancing the educational products marketplace, EDexpo primarily aims to connect buyers and sellers. It also provides education and training to help dealers increase sales through exposure to best practices and thought leaders.

EDexpo will include more than 150 companies exhibiting the newest educational products, including Boss Office Products, Classroom Innovations LLC and Jonti-Craft Inc. An additional 750 companies will exhibit in the adjacent Campus Market Expo (CAMEX) area, such as Wesco North America Inc. and Flash Furniture. More than 50 top education bloggers will be on hand throughout EDexpo reviewing these new products and learning tools, while also live tweeting and blogging the event.

A variety of sessions such as Hot Trends, Top Picks and New Product Showcase will help expose attendees to emerging products and learning advancements. Additional networking events will include a dealer roundtable and “speed dining,” as well as a welcome reception and daily breakfast gatherings. The Education Market Association annual meeting will also take place during the conference.

With a nod to the growing maker trend, the EDexpo exhibit floor will include a designated Makerspace area stocked with a 3D printer, laser cutter, woodworking equipment and more, allowing attendees to explore this hands-on approach to learning. Sylvia Martinez M.A. will also lead a session titled “Invent to Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom” to help both producers and school administrators work maker-inspired tools into school curriculum.

Additional sessions will highlight diverse educational topics. Management, retail and consumer specialist Michael Sansolo will speak on using social media to predict future buying trends, while Russell Fair, lead developer for the University of Missouri, will speak about how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education is changing the focus of the elementary classroom. Other sessions are aimed specifically at producers and include improving marketing plans and common core learning material sales.
