ORLANDO — SchenkelShultz Architecture recently won two first-place awards for its design of a high school and an elementary school from the Florida Educational Facilities Planners’ Association at its winter 2012 conference.
SchenkelShultz Architecture, a leading green design firm based in Orlando, Fla., won for its completion of Hernando County School Board’s Weeki Wachee High School in Weeki Wachee, Fla. They also took first place for Lake County Schools’ Sorrento Elementary School in Sorrento, Fla.
LOS ANGELES — Teamwork may flow a little more freely in the two-story, 60,000-square-foot renovation of the University of California Los Angeles’ Charles E. Young Research Library.
DAVIS, Calif. — The University of California at Davis has received a $10 million donation for a new art museum that will cost an estimated total of $30 million.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley recently proposed spending more than $370 million in the fiscal 2013 budget on public school construction in the state, the second highest single-year funding level in state history, according to state officials.
If approved, the plan will create new jobs and improve educational facilities throughout Maryland, O’Malley said. He has emphasized school construction since he first ran for governor in 2006.
EVERETT, Wash. — Monroe Elementary School in installed nearly 450 LED fixtures by Cree Inc., becoming the first predominately LED-lit school in the Everett Public Schools district. The company’s luminaires light the newly rebuilt two-story, 68,000-square-foot, grades K-5 elementary school, which serves about 600 students.
The new two-story, 2,000-square-foot glass-enclosed lobby, is the highlight of a $10.5 million addition and renovation project.
GODFREY, Ill. — Contegra Construction Company completed a $10.5 million renovation and expansion of the Hatheway Hall theater building on Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill.
DALLAS — Scranton Products is working with the Dallas School System to install bathroom partitions in 14 new elementary, middle and high schools.
In May 2008, Dallas citizens approved a $1.35 billion bond program. The program was designed to reshape the school district through the completion of 61 separate projects. The district will replace several dated facilities and repurpose numerous others with the latest technologies and sustainable features.
